What I loved about it it was still held in Cottoncreek but it takes it off in a different direction and the different things that go on the mystique, the challenges, the love oh it’s all good to set up what happens. Can’t wait for the next one to come out

Suspense with hot sex. Does not get any better than in this book. Hurry up book 2, can't wait to see what's next
I have read and adored the Heartbreakers and Heroes series which takes place in "Cotton Creek" so much so that if the place existed I would have to visit it! I was expecting this spinoff series to be similar with hunky ex-miliary types between the pages but although it does partly take place in "Cotton Creek" that is where the similarities end.Cord Alexander and Morgan Windwalker have a good life together they are still very much in love, but all that is going to be put at risk in this story when alarming and unexpected things begin to happen around them. This story is an action-packed roller coaster of a ride involving drama, intrigue, suspense as well as steamy passion, wonderful chemistry and most importantly love. The characters are well-developed and likable and the author has provided flashbacks which give us an insight into past events which helps to establish a better understanding of what is happening.My one little niggle is that the story ends in a cliffhanger which I personally don't like and for that reason alone I have marked it down to four stars, but on the whole, the story was so good I will have to forgive her. I can't wait for the next book!I read an ARC of this book and am voluntarily writing my review.
Normally, I would not give a book 5 stars because it's a cliffhanger and I hate cliffhangers.This book was exciting. It was intriguing. It was a suspenseful mystery. There are number of "hold your breath" moments. It did not have SEALS (former or current) jumping out of the woodwork to save the day. These were just seemingly ordinary people going about their lives.I say "seemingly" because there is something special about Morgan and I don't feel like everything about her has been fully revealed. Cord is not the average geek because you have to consider the whole cowboy/rancher vibe.There is a hint of danger and anticipation so you're always waiting for that something else to happen; for that other shoe to drop. That thing that leaves you on the edge of your seat.Well written characters who are interesting, and although ordinary, not completely without survival instincts in spite of being manipulated at each turn. Let's no forget Morgan and Cord's relationship. It is romantic, sexy, and connected. There is also something special about Joe and in addition, his connection with Morgan, that will hopefully come to light in the second book.I'm really looking forward to the next book so that we can see how this plays out.I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
What an action packed book!! It is full of drama, suspense, shootouts, car chases, fake CIA operatives, shady FBI agents with questionable loyalties and one knock out (literally) all but fight to the death scene between Morgan and psychotic bitch Cassie that was the best scene in the book. DO NOT underestimate the fury of an angry, grief-stricken pint sized woman after you have just poisoned her dog with a lethal dart! And I can't leave out Viktor, who is the most evil villain ever portrayed by Ms. Stone. He is a true sociopath!The only inconsistency I found was how quickly Morgan had allowed herself to consider it believable what Cassie had taunted her with during their epic fight that has her questioning whether Cord could actually be involved with Cassie even though Morgan and Cord have had twenty years together in a strong, trusting, love-filled marriage. Could the insecurities from her youth be making her doubt her sense of self-worth and therefore also whether a man like Cord could truly love her? And what is going on with Cord's business partner Juan and what does he have to do with Viktor? What does the government have to do with everything that is happening and what's up with the secret nuclear containment plant? I can't wait for the next book to find out!!I normally will not bother to continue reading a series if the first book ends with a cliff hanger but I am making an exception this time because this is just that good. I am well and truly hooked!!I received an ARC from the author for my honest, unbiased opinion.
Learning after I started reading that this is in the same universe as another series explained a lot of things. While this can be read as a standalone, I feel like doing so will leave you with lots of questions, so keep that in mind.Cord and Morgan are an enviable couple. True, deep love in a couple that has been together for a significant number of years. Cord's work puts them into a series of bizarre situations that honestly I'm still trying to figure out how they just went home after and tried to move on from.Pros: I like these characters. I like the development of their life and their world and the accompanying cast, particularly Joe and Myrtle. The deeper plot is intriguing, but this book barely skims what's happening.Cons: Without the perspective from the other series on these characters and their world, reading left me feeling a bit out of sorts. The underlying plot is hinted at but a bit confusing without this perspective as well.Overall, a good read and I'd like to try it again after picking up the other series first!
