About the Author
Stan & Jan Berenstain began writing and illustrating books for children in the early 1960s, when their two sons Michael and Leo were young readers themselves. They lived on a hillside in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a place that still looks a lot like Bear County, where they could see deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, and woodchucks through their studio window almost every day—but no bears. The Bears lived inside their hearts and minds.The Berenstains' sons are all grown up now. Michael worked as an illustrator with his mother, Jan, to create new Berenstain Bears books. There are Berenstain grandchildren who can even draw pretty good bears. With more than three hundred books in print, along with videos, television shows, and even Berenstain Bears exhibits at major museums, it's hard to tell where the Bears end and the Berenstains begin!

We read this to our 3.5 year old who loves Berenstain bears. This is a great set. My son especially likes the story about the picnic. The rhymes are quick and fun. This is a fun read for us too, as we grew up with the Berenstain bears.
This book has some of the older and better Berenstain Bear books in the collection. It features: The Bike Lesson, The Bear's Picnic, The Bears' Vacation, Bears in the Night, The Spooky Old Tree, and The Missing Dinosaur Bone. All are classics that my children love without any of some of the newer, stranger, and just plain bad Berenstain Bear books that have been published in more recent years. This collection is good for both girls and boys. My 3 year old daughter loves having all these stories read to her and they are very fast paced. My 6 year old son also likes these books and enjoys being able to read them himself. All in all, these books are great price and enjoyable to read over and over again. We liked these so much I bought this book for our nephews. I would recommend this to others.
My son likes these stories, but they are not like the typical ones. Three of these stories spend the whole time mocking the dad bear, which I hate.
My 2 year old LOVES the Berenstain Bear books! We have to read them every night. My complaint with this combination of books is that there were 2 stories in here that scared my son: Bears in the Night and The Berenstain Bears and the Spooky Old Tree. He even tells me that he doesn't want to read them because the pictures scare him as well. But he absolutely loves the other stories in there.
I was disappointed by the selection of these books. I thought they were in the same style as the Berenstain Bears books I grew up with in the 80s and 90s, but it was very clearly an older art and writing style. Not nearly as robust as I had hoped. I feel like these are a bit more simplistic than the Berenstain Bears books I grew up with.Having said that, my daughter likes a bunch of the books and chooses one of them fairly often at bedtime.
We had to buy this book again because my children tore it up but they LOVE this book. They choose it every night and I have to tell them to choose another one. :) Their favorite stories are Bears in the Night and The Spooky Tree. My children have memorized both stories, they are able to 'read' them to us. My daughter is 2, my son is actually able to read it now and he's 5.
The cover shows the Berenstain family but these really are more about random bears. It is simple rhymes and not a lesson story like traditional Berenstain Bears books. Could work good for teaching a cub to read though.
This book has two of my most favorite Berenstain Bears books... The Spooky Old Tree and The Big Picnic! It arrived brand new in pristine condition! I love it so much even though I’m an adult with 2 young children of my own. I have done my best to keep all of my childhood books, but had lost the Big Picnic somehow. Now I have it again and better than ever (lol). I have passed my love of the Berenstain family on to my kids! They love it too!
The cover makes it look like the stories will be illustrated with the "newer" bears illustrations. But the stories are original/old illustrations. That was disappointing. My son likes the stories but I didn't get what I thought I was going to.
