I use to be a licensed sign language interpreter. My kids' friends keep asking me how to sign things and I am happy to tell them. So it was "secret reader day" at my son's kindergarten class and thought I would bring in a book where they could learn sign language. As I researched kid books with ASL, none of the reviews or descriptions really stated if they provided a story vs a reference guide. I bought this one and a few others and found that all the ones I purchased including this one provide a reference. If you are looking for a storybook with signs, this isn't for you. The references are good. Some may be hard to understand if you do not know sign language. My son will try the signs and then ask me if he is doing it correctly. It is educational but I was hoping for a bit of a storyline with it. Even a few words on each page. The best part about the book is that it provides a poster size alphabet reference guide.I am purchasing a few of these for Christmas gifts for my son's friends.

Got this for myself cause I always wanted to learn.Easy to understand and retain and comes with ASL alphabet poster that I put up in living room for quick reference when building sentences.Will get more thorough information on conversational ASL but this has been a very encouraging start
4 yr old thrilled with more words. I like everything except figures have huge heads but tiny hands, so difficult to see sign formation. Colorful & fun.

This is a great book for kids, families, and teachers. I use this book to teach sign language to my preschool class and it's worked out great! Would def recommend and buy again. Nice illustrations and covers enough to get a great start!
