I have purchased many pool books from Amazon. This book is the best book of all. This book will help anyone who wants to improve their game. You learn where the cue ball is going and how to alter it's path so you will have the correct position on your next shot. Correct position means the cue ball will always be on the correct side of the next ball so natural cue ball roll after the shot leads you to correct position on the following ball. It makes pool much easier and more fun to play. There is a section on advanced shot making. Most of these shots are within your current ability, you just haven't been exposed on how to do it. Always play position for the next three ball. You are shooting the 1-ball, you want position on the 2-ball that will naturally lead you correct position on the 3-ball.
I have been playing pool for a long time, and I’m a student of the game. I’ve read many books on pool, and have watched a lot of pool videos. Even if you’ve been playing at a high level for a long time, this book is a great review of fundamentals, and a good way to confirm a lot of the knowledge you’ve picked up through experience over time. This book has definitely improved my game!
The only bad thing about this book is that my league handicap went up by two balls before I even finished reading it! I own over 20 books and 30 videos; it's like Cappelle has read them all and condensed the information into one easy to comprehend and understandable book. IT'S GREAT! Maybe not for a beginner, but I can't imagine a better book on the subject. He covers all the bases: basics, shots, stragety, position, banks, kicks, theory, mental, drills, practical shots and practice tips. There are many good books; but this is perhaps the best and most well rounded overall one book I've been fortunate to read. I have only four comments: 1. It really improved my game physically and mentally 2. If I could keep only one book, about pool, this would be it! 3. I wish I had written it. 4. THANKS, Phil Cappelle
I bought this book after reading many of the positive reviews. I was fairly new to serious pool at the time, and was looking for a comprehensive guide to really give me a way to organize my practice. This offers everything i needed and more. It will be a while before i can digest everything contained within. Everything i can say about this book has already been stated by many reviewers much more experienced than I. I simply enjoy watching my friends' jaws drop when i run the table and having some laughs while i do it with much less effort and indecision than it used to require. Pool becomes more fun when you can challenge more advanced players and have interesting matches. Definitely worth every penny.
An awesome instructional book on the fundamentals of how to play your best pool, the book has greatly improved my game, I have been playing pool off and on for over 45 years, the book taught me what I have been doing wrong for many years, I highly recomend this book for the amature as well as the seasoned pool player. This book is THE book for any pool player no matter how good or bad he/she plays since it goes right from the basics to covering all aspects of a professional pool player (talent, skill, technique and mental aspects too). I was already a good pool shot but my game was stagnated at that level and after reading this book and applying it my game has gone up 2-3 levels and i'm looking forward to continue reaping the benefits of this book and play at the highest level very soon and i'm confident this book has everything I need to prepare myself to get to that level. I just love reading this book again n again.. it never ceases to delight me each time with new insights and ideas to improve my game. The best thing about this book is the innumerous illustrations to explain each and every shot that is out there to play and also the mental side of it.
My husband got lent an earlier edition of this book. Fell in love with it. So it was a xmas gift that keeps on giving! If you are into playing pool, billiards- you cannot miss with the drills! Seriously, so many of the folks playing think that playing games is how to practice- only if you have a refined and consistent stroke and know how to aim those shots!!!This book is loaded with need to know info! I cannot stress it enough- the Drills section is what makes the difference (in your game)!
Love this book. Had the paperback for years and wanted an electronic version that I could carry with me everywhere. It has what you need from fundamentals to strategy for 8 & 9 ball. A must have for a beginner to intermediate player who has the desire to get better at pool. I own many other Capelle books as well and they all pay for themselves at the table.
