Other than the hard cover, larger physical size (and because of that, larger font size) and included poster, this book's content is identical to the hardcover collector's edition guide. I have both, and while the collector's edition guide is extremely nice, especially the larger font size, this one has the same content at a much lower price.So if you're just looking for a guide to help with the game, this one will do the trick.In regards to the book itself, it's about the size of a typical manga, the binding is good and the pages are matte, but are thinner than the collector's edition guide. As mentioned previously, the font size is smaller then the collector's edition guide. There's also less pages overall (288 vs 336 in the collector's edition).As for content, it covers all the necessities. You'll be able to 100% the game with this guide.
Honestly, The pages and cover are fine despite some reviews i saw. It is very small though and very lacking in pictures to aid you. If it's just the size that bugs you, you can purchase the hardcover but know, it is identical to this in terms of content. Which brings us to the most important part. I'll try to break it down better so you know exactly what you're buying. The strategy guide part of this book is find but to be honest thats not why you'll be getting this. Theres really only 2 reasons youll need this book1. Moons.So it's divided into each kingdom with a small picture at the beginning showing where all the moons are on the map for said kingdom. Each moon also has its own number and a very very short description on how to get it. So short in fact, the descriptions serve more as clues than a guide. Figuring out what they mean is a puzzle in itself. Furthermore, they often leave out key parts to getting a moon, which left me to google and realize i had to do something extra that was not written in. On some lucky moons there is a small picture to accompany its labrynth of a description. Unfortunately the pictures are so small and mostly irrelevent they wont be of any help at all. In short: Yes it has every location but it does an awful job of explaining how to get them.2/52. Purple CoinsThere is a small picture of the map with the location of each purple coin for each world. The picture and coins are so small it's barely useful and there are no descriptions or pictures of where and how to get them.0/5And if you're wondering if this book will help with tips, tricks, and secrets, the answer is unsurprisingly no. This guide has the bare minimum; just enough to say it has everything. Honestly, even with it's cheap price, save your money. Use a youtube video or an online walkthrough. You're gonna need to even if you buy this.2/5
My wife loves to guide me. It's like we are playing together plus I make her laugh when I try stupid (er, clever, inventive) moves to accomplish my goals. I would have given this guide five stars but a few times she's had to go online to interpret what was being suggested and sometimes I've been able to find an easier way to get to something, after she's read me the whole paragraph and I've decided that's too complicated as outlined. Overall, it's a good guide and there's so much to this game, there were bound to be some trouble spots in the guide.
Perhaps not what I would choose for my son to spend time reading but the main thing is it gets him reading I guess. He spends hours and hours pouring over this and has memorized hundreds of (entirely useless outside this game) facts. Be prepared to practice your skills of sounding amazed and interested as these facts are relayed to you (the parent) for weeks on end. Aside from my discomfort at the changing face of childhood the book seems to be what it says it is. It is well made, has large pages and colored pictures.
Prima has hit it out of the park with this one, packed full of everything you could want and/ or need to know, thank you for helping me look good to my kid!
A great game guide. Gave me all the info I needed to be successful at the game. Would definitely recommend.
First I purchased the paperback and felt it was too small to be a player's guide so I sent it back for this one. I love hardcover and am looking forward to devouring each page when I begin playing the game.
Great guide. Star locations aren't given just alluded to. A lot of them are still difficult to get. I enjoy having this more so than using my smart phone to look up a wiki. Books are better IMO.
