Well written novel about a strong willed female main character named Aisling who discovers she has inherited magical power to control the elements of nature. She learns to use her powers as she sets out on a journey to fulfill the obligations required to keep those powers. As the commander of a fleet of merchants ships, she travels to Asia where she meets up with the Fifth Prince who is in need of her skills to help defeat a group of usurpers who have long been planning to dethrone the Prince's father, King Yi.I love how Aisling uses her talents to help the Prince to root out the enemies who have infiltrated the palace along with those who have betrayed the King. She is a very capable and smart commander even without her powers and has the loyalty of all her men. There is action, battles, intrigue, mystery, and some romance. The story held my interest throughout the book. Well done.
There was so much unrealized potential in this storyline, but I had a difficult time with the POV (point-of-view) shifts between characters and lack of worldbuilding. The author was real descriptive about minor sensory things, but this made it obvious when she skipped over details in the scene. Also, some conflicts felt too easily resolved, which made some good build-ups anticlimactic. The dialog felt rushed, lacking pauses and breaking between switches of subject-- too much telling, and not enough pulling the reader into the action.
I love historical fiction with a strong heroine! The fantasy element makes it even more fun. And there aren’t any gross monsters. I appreciated how she matures throughout the book and problem-solves instead of just going along with the other characters in the story. And she has a unique job in a refreshing storyline I haven’t read before!
I have been looking for a new fantasy series for a while, and am so happy to have come across Princess of Sky, Earth, Fire and Water! The pace of the story was great, and I found myself turning page after page. The heroine is relatable yet admirable, and I love, loved the detail of the story's beautiful backdrop. Romantic, yet adventuresome. Fans of "Game of Thrones" and "Outlander" will enjoy the story line. Can't wait for the next book in the series!
The adventure starts immediately, and follows through with non stop action as the protagonist finds herself alone, and bestowed with a powerful yet dangerous gift. Will she be able to control the magic, or will it destroy her? With a cast of interesting characters, including warriors, handsome princes and devious enemies, the world of fantasy and reality is deftly blended to create a believable world for the action to play out. As the start of a series, this is an excellent first book.
I have always enjoyed books with supernatural elements and I particularly enjoy Irish characters so this story was particularly interesting to me. This writing is thick with imagery, like a tapestry.of colors and shapes. Great storytelling here - it keeps you hooked and moves you all the way to the end of the book..
Epic and extremely well written story with a strong female lead. What more can I say? It has all the elements to keep you wanting more. Can’t wait to see what else this author comes up with!
I had to keep reading "Princess of Sky, Earth, Fire and Water," by Cassandra Finnerty, to find out how well the main character, Aisling, was going to get through her journey and who, among the others who become involved, were going to survive.Love a story about a woman who is a strong character in her own right. Using her experience, cool logic and warm compassion, Aisling is able to overcome heartbreak and challenges in ways that surprise even her. Aisling is fortunate to possess enough humility to learn that collaboration will not only help others but have the added benefit of making her an even stronger force to be reckoned with. Hopeful message that good will overcome evil.Looking forward to the next two books in the series.
