The book is a must read for parents of estranged adult children and mental health professionals working with these families. Sheri McGregor's work is a breath of fresh air offering a new perspective and providing support, encouragement, resources, and compassion to good parents who have found themselves in an unimaginable situation.---Maritza Parks, LMHC, Inspired Journeys CounselingWhile Mothers are mentioned on the cover, dads, this is for you too! Done with the Crying is for any (and all) family member who wants to heal and move forward. This wonderful book will help you see how you can hold your chin up high, dry your eyes, and get on with your life.---Joi Sigers, Self Help Daily.comDone With the Crying also provides much time for reflection, for taking time to think about ones life and to read the stories of other women who are going through a similar situation. The book is easy to read, and provides much support and insight in a gentle and understanding way.---Hennie Weiss, M.A., Metapsychology Online ReviewsThis is my best resource to assist families whose adult children have rejected them. In my role as a family life educator, I work with those affected by a loved one's mental illness, and the sad phenomenon of estrangement is rampant. I've searched for resources and education, but there is precious little available to help rejected parents move forward. It did not take me many pages in to see the value for my work, and I often recommend this compassionately written book to parents and families who are in so much pain.---Mara J. This book was very helpful when I became estranged from my adopted adult daughter. I purchased the ebook version and did the activities in a notepad on my phone. I also joined the authors forum at rejectedparents.net I suggest that a grieving mom use this book as a tool to cope with the loss of a relationship with a child. I don’t have any better answers as to why my child walked away from me. What I do have is self acceptance and self understanding gained in the process of doing the exercises contained in the book. Considering that I was sobbing for hours on end prior to investing in the book, I would say that it has had incredible value in restoring my life back to being functional again. Mothers in my same situation, you have my prayers. Hang on tight, it gets better.

This book allows parents to feel understood and part of a group. However, I believe it completely misses/fails to provide the solution. An anonymous reviewer here provided a 2-star review that points out the multiple sites encouraging adult children to go low contact or no contact with their "toxic and narc parents." Find these and educate yourself. I absolutely don't believe all parents fall into this label. However, it can be extraordinarily enlightening to view the other perspective. Bottom line, in my opinion, is this: if you truly love someone, you want them to be happy, even if it does not include you. I really want my son to be happy. If that is without me, then I am happy he and his wife are happy. It's not about who is right or who is wrong. Realizing this healed me instantly and freed me to concentrate on living a fulfilling life.

It feels like this book saved my life. I tried spiritual healers, counselors, meditation, prayer, and on and on. Until I found this book I felt alone, misunderstood and judged. Not only did this author help me feel supported, understood and accepted, she also showed me the path to bringing joy back into my life. It's not that every day is easy and I know that this estrangement from my adult daughter has changed me at my core. My story is like so many others.' It's been 4 years since my adult daughter started cutting ties. We had been very close and we both talked about how lucky we were to have one another. Then her new boyfriend moved in (the one who has cut his own mother and stepmother out of his life) and she let herself be convinced that I was evil. This process of healing is probably a life-long journey, but because of this book, I actually believe that there is light at the end of this tunnel. Already I can see some twinkling stars along the path.

Niche audience. This book is written for and by parents whose adult children rejected them, walled them out of their lives. This is a personal tragedy, nothing less. Cut off from one's adult child--and the resulting grandchildren--often leaves aging adults feeling utterly bereft. Sheri McGregor knows this situation personally. She conveys her research, and her personal, hard-won wisdom, beautifully in this valuable self-help book. I refer to it often. The author also has a website/support group. Excellent. Not easy reading.

Like many things in life, one thing leads to another. If you want to know WTF is up with your “ estranged” child, just google “ NO CONTACT WITH PARENTS” It’s a thing! These kids don’t do this out of the blue- it’s well thought out and calculated. There is a whole following out there that follow a specific program and encourage these adult kids to no contact their parents ( narcissists is what they call us) . It’s unbelievable. There are multiple sites and one is worse than the next. If you want to sleep sound for the first time in forever, please look this up. Just lost my second son yesterday to the same hysteria . The words and methods were identical down to the buzzwords they are taught and used by my first N.C. son. It will make carrying on with your life and leaving these kids, right where THEY want to be- so much easier . FYI, they stalk the website you found this book on and make fun of us parents. They try to one up each other on how cruel they can be to us! You’re eyes will bleed, your soul will rest. Take back your life for free- just google this crap !

This was a very enlightening book for me and highly recommend to any parent going thru the pains of estrangement with their children. I realized I'm not the only one and it brought me actually a lot of peace with the decisions that have been made. I will always want and hope to have a relationship with my kids but I'm done crying and I'm done beating myself up about it. I'm now living my life, happy and fulfilled. This book opened my eyes that no matter what you do; your kids will see things how they want and nothing you can say or do will fix it. I could relate to most people and their stories in this book, which help push me to start finding new happiness in other places. I found it to be very therapeutic and give it five stars for the help it gave me.

This book was life changing. It was oddly comforting to know there were so many mothers and fathers out there that share my story and share my pain. I've been suffering in silence with the guilt and shame and like so many others, I had no clue why my children chose to cut me out of their lives as young adults. I have done a lot of crying, and now I'm more hopeful that I could move on in my own life with a new husband and wonderful step-children who love me and appreciate me.

I am half way through this book & have gotten such insight into my problem from it! The writing excercises really help and help you think more clearly. Reading about each persons problem brings to light the fact that you are not alone! I too always thought that you must have done something horrible to alienate your beloved child but now I realize it's not true. I cannot recommend this book enough for anyone out there (man or woman) with a broken heart from an adult child who you dearly loved.Thank you Sheri McGregor for your book and sharing your heartache too! I appreciate you!
