The wait is over for this wonderful new installment in the After Climeri Series by Sarah Woodbury. Fans of this saga will not be disappointed in the fast paced, suspenseful action and marvelous next development faced by King David, et al, in Ireland. It is a book that could be read as a stand alone but will be much more enjoyed if the reader has the backdrop knowledge of the alternative Universe the character's find themselves in. It brings us up to date with some of the favorite characters and gives us hope of much more to ponder that the delightful series will continue. I recommend you set aside a block of time to read this book as you won't want to put it down once you have started it.

I love visiting the Middle Ages with the After Cilmeri series! This story didn't disappoint. David continues to amaze me with his leadership skills and unwavering moral compass. I enjoyed having a little more time with Llywelyn and Meg. David's hopes for more democracy is admirable, but he is beginning to realize the people of the Middle Ages may not be quite ready yet for more freedom to choose their own course.

I started reading Sarah’s books soon after she began publishing them. As far as I can determine, I own every one of them. The only negative thing I can say about any of them is OCCASIONALLY there are gramatical errors, missing words or mis-identified people. Of course, I didn’t notice any of that until I had read the books (specifically the “After Cilmeri” series) about a dozen times. That should explain why the edits I know were done didn’t catch them. Once you start reading, you become so immersed in the story that little errors just don’t register. And, of course, I keep telling her to write faster. These books are excellent entertainment. There is a progression to the series, character development, characters learning and changing, and lots of action and adventure. There is also some interesting philosophy, accurate historical details despite the sci-fi/ time travel catagory. This particular installment is about Ireland. The conflict between the native Irish and their neighbors as well as the Normans in their midst shows some of the dynamics that are still in play today, over 700 years later. The fact that the Normams had been in Ireland over 100 years by that time and 2-3 generation had been born and raised on Irish soil should resonate with most Americans whose recent ancestors migrated here in the past 1, 2, or 300 years. I’m an American. I was born and raised in America and I can’t imagine where I would go if Native Americans managed to push us “newcomers” out. It’s pretty much the same scenario.Sarah comes up with a unique solution but only after a great, great story. Those whining about the lack of time travel in this specific installment should read some of the other books and then they would be so happy to hear from our friends again that the lack of time travel wouldn’t even be an issue.Great job, Sarah. Thanks so much for another wonderful adventure and great story!

This is the novel in which David has to deal with the complex problem of Ireland. It has been long after English conquest for the invaders to simply be ordered home, but the roots are shallow enough that one could conceive of a solution, potentially. Glib "solutions" just don't work when you have a real historian on the job, like this author. People have agency, yes, but they are also acting within a complex web of economic, continent-spanning conditions and trends, not all of which even a medieval king can control. What transpires is complex, nuanced, principled - everything you would expect from King David. The continuing saga of Christopher and other 21sters, and the other medieval characters, is a delight. These characters surprise you, just like real people do! I pray that Dr. Woodbury drives very, very carefully and looks three ways before crossing any street, because she needs to write another 11 books in this saga.....

I love long book series because I get to build strong connections with the main characters. While I was disappointed that this installment didn't have any time travel, the book was still very good. I appreciated not having to keep track of so many different people but sad that I didn't get to see some of beloved characters as they stayed back in England while David, Christopher and Callum met new people. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

I was a little sad that there was no time hopping but there was plenty of action. David is in Ireland with his parents, Christopher, and a few key people trying to negotiate peace. But the peace talks go to hell when someone sneaks weapons in and kills most of the most important men in Ireland. They almost get David Meg and Llewellyn too but had their escape planned in advance.Meanwhile bad guys are sailing into town (my ancestors, by the way) with more bad guys waiting for the, Christopher gets abducted, and once again the rumor is spreading that David is dead. He must raise an army from the people who were not at the conference and the families of those that were, they can't let this go any further!!Will they GB is this

In my search for something to fill my need, since i finished Outlander, This series is it I have read all 11 books, fell in love with all the characters, the history is correct and explained even though the characters are changing it in their timeline. I recommend starting with Daughter of Time. The are quick reads being 300 pages or so, instead of the 1000-1300 pages of Outlander, but is just as action packed and lovely. Can't wait for #12!

I absolutely love this series! After reading Outpost of Time, I went back to start the series over again. I have it all on Kindle, but it is now on my Amazon Wish List for a paperback set. (Which would make it easier for checking back to see who's who) My only problem with the series is I can't put it down. I tell myself, "just one more chapter."...it's a good thing I'm retired and can stay up late reading!
